Newcastle chiefs have vowed they will fight to keep Eddie Howe at the club if the England international wants him as their new manager.
The Magpies boss is one of the frontrunners to replace Gareth Southgate. Howe would be “absolutely” open to a move to England, even if he is happy on Tyneside.
Chief executive Darren Els revealed Howe signed a new contract last summer. And said he had not spoken to the 46-year-old about the England job and expected him to be in charge when the new season begins.
Asked if the club would fight to keep Howe ยูฟ่าเบท should he come calling, Els said: “Yes, absolutely. To take the club from 19th to 11th at the end of the first season and then to get them into the Champions League the following season. It’s amazing.”
“I’ve been lucky to work with Eddie and see how he manages people on a daily basis on the pitch. He’s a great player developer.”
“He’s got the spirit of the club and Newcastle and the fans. We’ve seen that there’s a bond between the team and the fans.”
